Denise Giago - Hair and Make Up

“I am a cosmonaut on an artistic exploration of the universe.”

I love art in every form imaginable … intentional, accidental..transendental. Though I have mostly been identified as a fine artist, working in paint, drawing, sculpture etc.; I sort of fell into make-up artistry as a fun and creative way to pay the bills, honestly. But, it is the film work that has been the most exciting and fun of that endeavor. However, it is my duty as a cosmonaut to keep on truckin’, or flying..so, after several years devoted to building a career as a make-up artist in film..I disappear from the scene. And now, I pop up as Director of lay out and design at a new magazine called Indian Education Today. This is a family venture started by my father, Lakota writer and publisher Tim Giago. IET is a monthly, full color, glossy magazine focused on education and mass media in Indian Country..and beyond. Just like make-up art, I had never done anything like this before. I believe you just have to trust and jump in and have faith in yourself…you can do anything you set your mind to. What’s next? In true cosmonaut fashion..anything could happen, space and time are endless and the journey has just begun.
